Did you attend the Menorah Lighting at Borough Hall, the Christmas Village & Live Nativity at Salem Church, the 30th Anniversary Screening of “Working Girl” & Cinema Connex Kickoff Party at the magnificent St. George Theatre, the Annual Holiday Maker Market Venue at Staten Island MakerSpace or the Holiday Festival of Tradition at the H.H. Biddle House?  There were many events this week to choose from for the young and not so young.  Below are pictures from the “Working Girl” screening and Cinema Connex Kickoff Party featuring Marty Albucher of Electric Hair "teasing" the models, Everything Goes Clothing, Cafe & Bookstore, MakerSpace Staten Island, Richmond Hood Company and, of course, the fabulous St. George Theatre!

Join the Crazy 8's Math Club, which encourages kids 5-12 to explore math concepts through fun, interactive games and engaging hands-on activities on Wednesday, 12/12 & 12/19 at 4 at the Stapleton Library, 132 Canal St.

Meet other teens/young adults on Wednesday at 4 at the Pt. Richmond Library, 75 Bennett St. for DIY Bookmarks.  Make a bookmark that is as unique as you. Cut out images from old magazines and comic books to make something really cool.  Good for ages 13-18.

The Family Association Meeting will be held on Wednesday from 7-8:30 at the YMCA-South Shore, 3939 Richmond Ave.  The Family Association Meeting is for family members who are dealing with a loved one struggling with substance use.

Go to the Book Swap on Thursday, 12/13 from 11:30-12:30 at the West New Brighton Library, 976 Castleton Ave.  Bring one or more books to swap with other book lovers! Price of admission is one book to swap. Please bring clean books...no ripped/torn pages. All genres are accepted.  Please limit the amount of books you take to the amount you brought.

Create a light up greeting card at the Huguenot Library, 830 Huguenot Ave. on Thursday at 3:30.  Presented by Staten Island MakerSpace, participants decorate a card with a circuit made of copper tape, a coin cell battery and an LED. Learn about basics of electricity and make a take-home card for family or friends. Good for ages 13-18 years old.

The Stapleton Library, 132 Canal St. will host the Teen Winter Party for ages 13-18 on Thursday at 4. Teens will play home-alone bingo and work on a craft in the community room.

Come to the South Beach Library for a FREE film screening of “Mary Poppins” (1964) at Family Movie Night on Thursday at 4:30! In turn of the century London, a magical nanny employs music and adventure to help two neglected children become closer to their father. Perfect for the whole family!

On Friday, 12/14 from 10-1, Senator Andrew J. Lanza  will sponsor a Property Tax Exemption Event in partnership with the New York City Department of Finance (NYC DOF) to assist eligible homeowners in applying for property tax exemptions to lower their property tax bill. This FREE event will be held at the CYO-MIV, Mt. Loretto, 6581 Hylan Blvd.  The NYC DOF will be able to answer questions about various property tax exemptions and accept new and renewal applications. For details on eligibility and documents RSVP to (718) 984-4073. 

Sing, dance, and reveal your inner musician for children ages 1-5 and their caregivers at Music & Movement on Saturday 12/15 at 11 at the New Dorp Libary, 309 New Dorp Ln.  Our music time is dynamic and interactive, so come ready to participate in the fun.

Celebrate the end of fall and look forward to the cozy winter days ahead with Preparing for Winter Solstice on Saturday from 11-1 at the Greenbelt Nature Center, 700 Rockland Ave.  Weather permitting, you will take a short walk and see how the forest has been preparing for winter. Then you will create a special craft that will add light to the season’s shorter, darker days and cozy up near the fireplace. This program is good for ages 4-8 with an adult chaperone. Come to the Saturday Sing-along with Matt on Saturday from 11:30-12:15 at the St. George Library, 5 Central Ave. with traditional and new children’s songs. Singing is not only fun, but is good for you and promote early literacy skills as well. Good for the entire family!

Kids 6+ can enjoy making a Kids Club Christmas Frame on Saturday at 12 at Michael’s Craft Store.  Parent or guardian must remain on premises during the event.  Sign up in store or call to register. On Saturday at 2, join Staten Island OutLOUD and librarian, Colin and the staff of the Tottenville Library, 7430 Amboy Rd., for a fun gathering and community conversation of "Pretty Monsters" Book Chat.  

Any time you fold a piece of paper, you’re crafting. And there are surprisingly many ways to fold a piece of paper. Attend Paper Crafting on Saturday from 2-3:30 at the Conference House Park, 7455 Hylan Blvd.  All ages are welcome. You must be able to use scissors! Join the Port Richmond Library, 75 Bennett St., for a classic holiday movie showing of “Elf” on Saturday at 2:30.  Enjoy cookies and hot chocolate with marshmallows while they last.

Attend the Adult Craft Corner: Knitting Social at the South Beach Library, 21-25 Robin Rd., on Saturday, 12/15, 12/22 at 3 and Saturday, 12/29 at 5:15 for a get together to work on a current project, learn new techniques or begin a new craft all while enjoying some good conversation. This crafty program is guided by an experienced instructor. All skill levels are welcome. This special MakerSpace program is part of our Adult Craft Corner series where we provide the space and materials for you to conduct quick and easy DIY projects.

Celebrate with your favorite light-workers at the Holiday Holistic Expo on Sunday, 12/16 from 11-6 at the Hilton Garden Inn,1100 South Ave. Recharge before the holidays with gift shopping, awesome workshops, raffles, giveaways and more! Admission is $5. 

Participate in the Sea Shanty Session on Sunday from 2-5 at the Noble Maritime Collection, 1000 Richmond Terr.  Led by the Folk Music Society of New York, this program is gaining in popularity and offers a great opportunity to experience authentic, time-honored maritime songs in an appropriately historic setting. The sessions are FREE and family friendly, and you are encouraged to sing along if the mood strikes you! If you can’t make it this weekend, we hold a session on the third Sunday of every month.
