Did you visit the magnificent, completely hand-made Grotto this week during the 113th Anniversary Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society?  If not, you still have a chance to enjoy the festivities this Thursday, 7/21 through 7/24 at 7:30 at Virginia Ave. in Rosebank. On Sunday, a magician was entertaining the delighted kiddies.  Enjoy music by DJ Vin D and bands throughout the festival. Following are photos of the Grotto and surrounding altars.

 

 

 

 

Back to the Beach took place on Saturday and Sunday with the sun blazing most of the day but cool breezes made the heat bearable.  Many visitors stopped by at the Gillani Homes booth to say hello and enter the chance to win a Lottery Scratch-Off Ticket House.  See the photos below.

Boogie Woogie Wednesdays continues today at 5 at the Staten Island Children's Museum, 1000 Richmond Terr. Sponsored in part by the Staten Island Delegation to the NYC Council and Dunkin Donuts, Boogie Woogie Wednesday is a FREE outdoor Wednesday evening music and dance program AND a great way to sneak some family time into a busy week. Why not pack a picnic dinner, dine under the tent on the Meadow and then dance the night away?  At 5-Free admission begins and Exhibits open for play. 5:30- Story time with Literacy INC.  6:30-Snacks (while supplies last).  7-Dancing Begins! 8-Museum closed.

The Borough President’s sponsored Summer Concert Series continues on Thursday at 7 at Snug Harbor, 1000 Richmond Terr. and features SI Snugs and LoveMeDo.  Bring lawn chairs, blankets, snacks and enjoy the concert under the stars. 

A life-sized version of Chutes and Ladders can be played on Friday, 7/22 at 1 at the Mariners Harbor Library, 206 South Ave.  See if you can come out the winner!  Great fun for Ages 6-12.

The GILLANI HOMES ANNUAL CHARITY BBQ takes place Friday at 6 at our office at 60 Sand Ln. The event is FREE to attend. Get ready for plenty of Fun, lots of Food, Music, Dancing (as much as your feet can take) and a networking opportunity. Attend a Mass in remembrance of Rev. Benedict Groeschel on Friday at 7:30 at Our Lady Help of Christians School, 23 Summit St.  Those afflicted by mental health issues and those in poverty will be remembered in a special way during the mass. The celebrant will be the Rev. Andrew Apostoli, cofounder of Franciscan Friars of the Renewal and a well-known author, speaker and television guest. The event is sponsored by the Catholic Mental Health Professionals.

Moth Night (Snug as a Bug) takes place on Saturday, 7/23 from 8:30-10:30 p.m. at the Staten Island Museum, Snug Harbor, 1000 Richmond Terr. Building!  All ages are welcome to bring cameras, flashlights, containers and field notebooks. Stay up late and celebrate National Moth Week with night walks and glowing observation attractors. Admission is $10/Children under 12 are FREE.

Presented by Be Yoga & Dance of Rosebank, Staten Island, in partnership with Shape Up NYC, you can participate in FREE gentle yoga on Saturday from 10-11 on the lawn of Clear Comfort at Alice Austen Museum, 2 Hylan Blvd.  Free yoga is offered on the second and fourth Saturdays in June, July, and August. 

On Saturday from 12-4, join the Alice Austen House Museum, 2 Hylan Blvd. to celebrate Alice Austen’s 150th Birthday at Community Day! This FREE festival features live music, Victorian dress up, face painting, a historic car, food and more! FREE FAMILY PORTRAITS (8 x 10) to the first 150 families will be taken by a professional photographer (from 12-3). Visit Alice Austen’s historic house and darkroom. 

Attend the Sunday Boardwalk Concerts, Sunday, 7/24 and every Sunday through 9/4 from 3-8 at the Boardwalk Café, 300 Capodanno Blvd. From country to classic rock, jazz to show tunes, an Elvis Extravaganza to a rocking Bruce Springsteen tribute band, the musical lineup offers something for everyone. Bring a beach chair or spread a blanket out on the beach to enjoy performances with the mighty Verrazano Bridge as a backdrop. On 7/24, you will be treated to a Rock concert by Sing Yoga. On Monday, 7/25 at 6:30, bring your children to the Tottenville Library for a Stuffed Animal Sleepover.  Wear your pajamas, bring a favorite stuffed toy to leave at the Library overnight.  Bedtime stories will be read and all can enjoy a craft.  Pre-register at 718-984-0945.
