The newly formed New Dorp Merchants Group's mission is simple- to create an influx of shoppers in order to fill the vacancies. Once a bustling retail center, New Dorp Lane has fallen victim to competiton from popular shopping destiations like the Staten Island Mall. This Saturday and Sunday from 1pm-5pm, the 12th annual events offeres the opportunity to explore the inside of the Conference House, the Biddle House and the Rutan-Beckett House. Tottenville's Conference House, also known as Billop Manor, a 300 year old historic Staten Island landmark will bring some theatrical scares this October. The house is the setting for local playwright Joe Simonelli's thriller entitled "The Haunting of Billop House" whos writing was inspired by legends of a haunted Conference House. The four character play, with the house itself serving as the fifth, will be staged in the basement. The story follows a new caretaker who is intrigued by the mysterious connection she feels to the house.
