Staten Island is home to over ten thousand acres of green park space. That’s about a third of the entire borough, and the reason it is known as “The Borough of Parks.” No matter what neighborhood you live in, there is bound to be a park just a short distance away. Throughout the course of the year, the parks on Staten Island host a plethora of events for families to enjoy. This fall, Staten Islanders have the opportunity to celebrate the season like no other borough in New York City!

The Greenbelt Recreation Center located in Bloodroot Valley is the perfect park to visit for autumn fun. The park is within close proximity to both Lighthouse Hill and Willowbrook. Don’t let the name scare you, bloodroot is a plant that grows in abundance in the area.…

October 28th marks the one year anniversary of Super Storm Sandy.  Anniversary however, seems an ill-fitting word. The storm took countless lives, destroyed hundreds of homes, and left Staten Islander’s in a state of bewilderment.  Those painful truths cannot be forgotten, but in the midst of all chaos there is one thing worth celebrating- the resilience of Staten Islanders and how we’ve bounced back. We refused to give up in spite of the daunting challenges we faced.  It is precisely that determination and sense of community that has helped to restore our shores to their former glory. While there is still much work to be done, we can’t let that diminish how much progress we’ve made this past year. Here’s a look at what we can look forward to, and where…

On October 13th, the New York Road Runners will host the Staten Island Half-Marathon. In addition to the race, the Road Runners will also host a day of festivities, at Richmond County Ball Park, for Staten Island families. These events, which will surround the marathon, are a celebration of Staten Island’s resilience after Hurricane Sandy. According to the NYRR website, the organization will donate the net proceeds of the event to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and ECHO (Emergency Children’s Help Organization), two organizations that are helping the hardest-hit areas of the community.

Children’s activities including age appropriate races and games will take place. In addition to fun-filled activities food vendors from local restaurants and musical…

Staten Island has been coined “The Forgotten Borough” by many, including its own residents.  However, in the past few months it seems the retail world was reminded just how worthy the Island is. Developers are making investments here to bring shopping and attractions to our shores. With so many up and coming additions to a variety of neighborhoods, it’s most assuredly a borough to be remembered! Here are some of the new attractions that make Staten Island worthy of your investment.

Grocery shopping can be one of the most daunting tasks of the month especially for those who live in underserved areas of the Island. As these neighborhoods expand, so does the need for conveniently located markets.  Shopping has become easier for…

There are many articles and discussions on the internet that argue over the value a Realtor when the time comes to selling your largest financial asset which is usually your home, or other real estate holdings.  When it comes to selling, many homeowners feel that they should try to sell on their own thus “saving” the commission.

Many articles and blogs will argue that a Realtor is not worth their commission because the homeowner can do the same if not a better job at selling their home.  After all, they know their home more intimately and can pitch its virtues better than any Realtor they will hire.  In today’s internet world with homeowner’s access and ability to post their home for sale on numerous websites it seems so easy to sell without a Realtor. …

The spring selling season is underway and with the warm weather we have been experiencing on Staten Island the home buyers are ready to move in before the full blown summer heat is upon us.  With that in mind, many sellers are eager to know what would get their home sold as fast as possible so they can move on to their next dream home.

The number one rule in selling is if you think about it a no brainer...and that is to SHOW THE HOME.  Now you may read this and think that I must be kidding with you.  Of course sellers show their home, why wouldn't they.  They know they have to show to sell.  You would be correct in thinking that sellers show their home.  However, as a full time agent working with both sellers and buyers I can tell you first hand that…

I have been working with both buyers and sellers of real estate in Staten Island and everyone has felt a little confused lately.  The sellers are still hoping for higher prices than they are realistically going to get in this market.  At the same time the buyers are expecting miracles in that they think that the sellers will sell for a lot less than the listed sales price.   Well of course somewhere in the middle is where most deals are struck.

In my opinion, when a Staten Island seller is presented with a solid offer from a well qualified buyer they should really try to strike a deal and sell their home.  If they are move up buyers, the home that they will be purchasing will be less today than it would have been at the height of the market.  So in…
