Staten Island's very own Flagship Brewing Co. will start offering tours of their Tompkinsville facility beginning this Saturday, January 31st.

Flagship Brewing Co. is the only craft brewery located on Staten Island. They opened about eight months ago and, up until now, have only offered private tours of their small business. Opening up these tours to the public is a huge milestone for the growth of the brewery, as many other companies in the industry use tours like these to better connect with their customers.

The tour takes guests through the brewing process with a 15-minute presentation, and those who are of legal drinking age are rewarded with a pint of beer at the end! Tours only cost $5 per person, are open to 20 people at a time, and will…

All it takes is a $40 donation and the Snug Harbor crew will decorate a lamppost in the area with a festive wreath including a personalized plaque with your name! Each donation will reflect your support of the arts and culture on Staten Island. There are over 83 acres in the Snug Harbor area, but space and supplies are limited. The crew asks you to donate by December 19th so all wreaths can be up by the holidays.

Last year, hundreds of Plungers took a dip the ice cold waters of South Beach while many more watched on in support. This year marks the 8th anniversary of the Staten Island Polar Plunge, to take place Sunday, December 7th at the Vanderbilt on Father Capodanno Blvd.

Participants, or "Plungers" as they're called, are asked to valiantly tread the chilly water to raise money for athletes of the New York Special Olympics. Plungers are encouraged to ask friends and family for monetary as well as moral support. Every Plunger who raises $125 will receive an official Plunge sweatshirt to bundle up in after their swim. And of course, raising more money leads to even greater prizes.

The Staten Island Greenbelt's original 5K run, "Fall Flat," returns this Saturday, November 22. Here's to hoping that runners don't take the race's title too literally!

This marks the 14th year that the Staten Island Board of Realtors is bringing us 'Adopt-a-Senior.' The holidays can be a tough time for those who spend it alone, and this program looks to change that. The initiative sends volunteers to area nursing homes to spread some quality time with seniors who may not have visitors of their own.

The Committee to Save Mount Manresa will be holding a fundraiser tomorrow, November 9th, at Michael's Meatballs & Martinis on Hylan Blvd in Dongan Hills .

The Mount Manresa complex, the former Jesuit Retreat located in Fort Wadsworth, was constructed in the 1920s. Recently, the site has suffered partial demolition, causing unsafe conditions for island residents. Apparently, the demolition company who began the process initially submitted fraudulent reports. What they failed to make clear is that this old structure contains Asbestos, and further destruction will cause air pollution and put residents at risk for exposure. So far, at least 8 nearby residents have complained of health problems due to the…
