I joined my grandkiddies at the Summer Reading Kick-Off: The Universe on Wednesday at 4 at the Tottenville Library which was decorated with everything “Universe”.  Even the fabulous Library staff  were sporting Martian ears!

Entertainment was provided by an animated musician from Rockness Music who drew the children into the performance by singing about space, robots and Martians--they laughed, sang, danced, jumped up and down and enjoyed an afternoon that ended with giveaways and popsicles. The children had lots of fun as evidenced by the photos.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all my gentle readers!  I pray you rang in the New Year 2019 with people you love and care about.  Two years ago, I posted lyrics from a Tim McGraw song, “Humble and Kind” written by Lori McKenna which always touches my soul especially the last paragraph.  “Don't take for granted the love this life gives you, When you get where you're going don't forget turn back around, And help the next one in line, Always stay humble and kind.”  If only we could use this mantra in our every day lives……..

2018 brought much joy, two new baby girls born into our family, and heartache, a number of our loved ones passed away.  Some health issues and family issues occurred that we faced head-on.  You can make resolutions, promises and goals, but when…

It’s back to school this week for most students after a long hot, hot, hot summer!  Please remind your kids to be aware of other children who may not feel comfortable starting a new school or a new class. Tell them to smile and be friendly. Let them know that it’s OK to be nervous and remind them to be kind to their fellow students—they may be nervous also! Bullying should never be tolerated! Remind them if they see something that doesn’t look or feel right, they should tell their teacher, parents or caregivers. I wish them all a successful, happy, safe school year!  Check out the first day of school pictures I unearthed from the 50's.  Big sister, Ellen; Me starting kindergarten leaving little brother, Mark, at home; cousin Tom Urgo with me starting 1st…

I hope you made it to the Staten Island Shakespearean Theatre’s delightful presentation of "The Taming of the Shrew" this past weekend at Reformed Church of Staten Island in Port Richmond. The play takes place in Padua, New York, a town that resembles Staten Island. The wonderful cast, clad in hip current-day garb, made you feel right at home with Shakespeare while rapping, moving and grooving, twists and turns, mistaken identities and ending with happily ever after.  The venue, albeit sweltering during this heat wave but cooled with huge fans, was a perfect setting for this play.  Visit SIShakespeare.org for info on future performances
