If you have not done so already, this is the weekend to plant tulip bulbs! Yes, if you are planning to list your home with me next spring or you just want to have those tulips, with their burst of color, brighten up your property and neighborhood, start planting now. The weather will be sunny and warmer than it has been in awhile.
On Saturday, 10/25, experience Raptor Day at Blue Heron Park , 222 Poillon Ave. between Amboy Road and Hylan Blvd. The Friends of Blue Heron Park will sponsor “Wildlife in Need of Rescue and Rehabilitation” a rescue and rehab group for raptors and other animals, and will feature demonstrations and talks to show how these amazing, wild birds adapt to our environment despite their injuries. Metro Herpetological will also be on hand with live animals. Birds will fly from 1-3:00 p.m. Scarecrow making returns. Bring a set of old clothes, sweat pants/shirts and jeans/flannel shirt work best, from 12-4:00 p.m. 
Also on Saturday, Comic Book Jones on 2220 Forest Ave. will present a free Comic Book Day. Beginning at 10:00 a.m., visit the book store for free Halloween-themed comics and goodies until supplies run out.
The Friends of Abandoned Cemeteries will sponsor a tour of the little cemetery, The Historic Lake Cemetery, established in the early 1800’s tucked in behind Burger King on 1668 Forest Ave.(and Willowbrook Road). See the tombstone of Emeline Long-Earl, the only Staten Island woman documented to have gone into service during the Civil War.
If you are at all interested in the history of Staten Island and especially the town of Graniteville, you will not be disappointed in the secrets and history you will find on this tour on Saturday, at 3:00 p.m.
Meet up with the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York for Star Gazing at Gateway National Recreation Area at Great Kills Park, Hylan Blvd. at Buffalo St. on Saturday, 7:30 p.m. Telescopes will be provided.
On Sunday, 10/26, 1:00 p.m. Wagner College’s Stage One Studio Theatre, 1 Campus Road, will present a staged reading of Jennifer Maisel’s 2014 Stanley drama award-winning play, “Out of Orbit” followed by a Q&A with the playwright.
Attend a Book Signing of “Staten Island Slayings, Murderers and Mysteries of the Forgotten Borough” by Patricia Salmon on Sunday, at 2:00 p.m. at the Noble Maritime Collection at Snug Harbor Cultural Center, 1000 Richmond Terrace, Building D. While there, visit the Noble Maritime Collection, a retrospective exhibit of John Noble’s paintings spanning over five decades. Also, every third Sunday of the month at 2:00 p.m., enjoy “Sea Shanties”, the tradition of songs and stories about the maritime history of our country. You will be tapping your feet and singing along in no time. Not to be missed!
Open to all high school age youths, the Archery Venturing Crew 10 meets every Sunday at their clubhouse at the Zimmer Club of Staten Island, 4411 Arthur Kill Rd when the temperature is 40 degrees or above.
