April is National Donate Life Month! For the 2019 National Donate Life Month theme, Donate Life America was inspired by bicycles and the phrase “Life is a beautiful ride.” Like the donation and transplantation journey, a bicycle serves as a symbol of progress, renewal and the moving circle of life. Nearly 9,500 New Yorkers are currently on waiting lists for donated organs that could save their lives.  If you would consider becoming an organ, eye or tissue donor, visit: https://www.donatelife.net/register/ You can also become a donor by registering with your local DMV when applying for or renewing your driver’s license. Spring is busting out all over!  Just praying whatever flower blooming this week in my garden doesn’t get covered by a surprise snow storm or a bomb cyclone!  I took a stroll through Snug Harbor and spotted a sad looking turtle on a block of wood hesitating to go into the murky green water of the pond.  Two ducks were hanging out in the water but did not look too alive or excited to be there.

I love to see the snow melting and the green tops of plants popping out of the wet soil.  Now is the time to start planting seeds on your window sill to ready them for your garden when the last freeze is over.  As I write this, the weather is expected to go up to 50.  My kitty actually insisted on going outside to bask in the sun.  Is Mother Nature teasing me?  Time will tell.

The 4th of July came and the humidity felt worse than ever.  People were complaining in the air conditioned mall and everywhere I went how humid it was outside!  What?!  I enjoyed the cool evening on my front porch and played Scrabble a number of times while chilling out. The Staten Island Philharmonic entertained at Alice Austen House on the 4th and at Willowbrook Park on the 7th.  The Borough President’s FREE Sunset Summer Concert Series at Midland Beach, featuring Brother Dynamite and The Resistance, was a great evening of entertainment with the cool sea air. Did you try kayaking with Kayak Staten Island at Conference House Park on Sunday? There are plenty of ways to stay cool without air conditioning. I actually worked on my garden a few late…

I hope your holidays were blessed and joyful.  Did you enjoy FREE admission at the Staten Island Children’s Museum on Monday?  Or visit Ocean Breeze Park at 625 Father Capodanno Blvd. and check  out the many programs that are offered there?  My 5 year old grandson very proudly announced that usually he only has Saturday and Sunday off from school. But this week, he said, he will have so many more days off and doesn't have to return until “next year”!  I asked him if he will miss going to school.  He tentatively replied, “Yes.”  I know Gerard and many other students as well as educators will be happy to have this week off to rest, play and recharge their internal batteries.

My sister, brother and I took a quick trip to Manhattan on Monday (walked over…
