On Sunday, the St. Peter’s High School for Girls Alumnae Association held their Annual Reunion Brunch at LiGreci’s Staaten. Our class of 1969 had a great turnout. Those 50 years seem to have flown by in a blink.  It was so much fun trying to figure out who was who as we gathered--there should have been name tags! Looking at my fellow classmates in my mind’s eye as teens, we still look terrific! WEEKEND EVENTS ON STATEN ISLAND (7/10-7/14/19)

I hope you, my gentle readers, had a happy and safe 4th of July.  The weather was great with not a cloud in the sky.  Did you attend any of the events mentioned in this blog on the holiday?  The Empire Outlets was hopping with entertainment during their Three-Day Block Party and was a perfect venue to chill out, enjoy the sights, sounds and shop!  The 109th Travis 4th of July Parade was a successful event as well as the 91st Annual Huck Finn Fishing Tournament & Costume Contest at the Zimmer Club and the Historic Richmond Town Independence Day Celebration. 

The Reading of the Declaration of Independence, sponsored by Staten Island OutLOUD and Beth Gorrie, took place in the shade at Fort Wadsworth, and all guests participated.  It was emotional reading…

Did you attend the Staten Island New Teacher Job Fair at Petrides, Wine Tasting at Honor Wines at their new location at 104 Beach St., the Third Annual Greenbelt Outdoor Adventure Day at Willowbrook Park, Historian Pat Salmon’s talk and discussion about the history of The Oystermen of Captain's Row at The Noble Maritime Collection or the 52nd Annual Art Exhibit, presented by The South Shore Artist Group at Conference House Park or the Victory Boulevard Merchants Association’s Annual Restaurant and Merchant Stroll?   So many things to do but so little time… I often say that, never the opposite--“I’m bored”. WEEKEND EVENTS ON STATEN ISLAND (3/27-3/31/19)

Spring is busting out all over!  Just praying whatever flower blooming this week in my garden doesn’t get covered by a surprise snow storm or a bomb cyclone!  I took a stroll through Snug Harbor and spotted a sad looking turtle on a block of wood hesitating to go into the murky green water of the pond.  Two ducks were hanging out in the water but did not look too alive or excited to be there.

WEEKEND EVENTS ON STATEN ISLAND (2/20-2/24/19)

After the snow and sleet storm last week, I ventured out the next morning to start the cleanup.  Chopped ice on all the walkways, shoveled it away and spread some salt in the driveway hoping it would melt.  Most of it did; and before I went back inside, I sat on the porch, soaked in some vitamin D for 45 minutes and meditated.  It was so refreshing that I actually caught a second wind and started to clean my house!  How’s that for revitalizing oneself?

WEEKEND EVENTS ON STATEN ISLAND (9/5-9/9/18)

It’s back to school this week for most students after a long hot, hot, hot summer!  Please remind your kids to be aware of other children who may not feel comfortable starting a new school or a new class. Tell them to smile and be friendly. Let them know that it’s OK to be nervous and remind them to be kind to their fellow students—they may be nervous also! Bullying should never be tolerated! Remind them if they see something that doesn’t look or feel right, they should tell their teacher, parents or caregivers.
